Ged, have a look at Ken Robinson talking about education “Changing Education Paradigms” on RSA Animate. They also have other interesting animated talks. I absolutely agree with everything he says. Teachers individually can do their best to nurture creativity but find themselves flying in the face of a system established to ‘dumb down’ and create a conformist and compliant workforce. Many teachers in the system, however, don’t agree.

hi rebecca thanks for your comments. i agree its about changing the outmoded system. not sure why this doesnt happen. it sometimes seems like a control to stop people being creative or just a system that historically has come into being and has become the status quo. i know so many teachers who are disenchanted with working in the system. its no surprise that teachers are amongst the most stressed people and this can’t be great for the kids either. best wishes, ged

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook a few months ago. Absolutely love it. This is the path I feel I’m beginning to tread. Starting from ‘educational theatre’ – educating from the body – and finding other collaborators who are passionate about their own diverse subjects (ecology, languages, etc) to help feed into a school from the centre out. Like a wheel, with spokes of subjects, coming from the heart and body intelligence first. Inspiring stuff!

I work with a group called nowhere, we work with creativity and embodied ways of knowing in schools in the UK, Netherlands and Africa : http://www.now-here.com/ecl
I love Ken Robinson’s talk it’s fantastic. I think that an understanding of the body and how it works as a vehicle for learning and creativity is needed in education. I trained at Karuna with Steve – the Craniosacral therapists training is a great way into this special work with kids…
