Great stuff. I'd be interested in knowing what their definition of social rank is. My guess is that animals that have a lower "social rank" are ones that are under greater stresses (food, space, social interactions) and we all know that stress of any form on you will lower immune system function. It is a side effect of social status change, which leads to gene changes.

Funny, I just finished watching the movie Thrive...and making what I will of it...and this came through. What's been fascinating me for years is patterns in nature. They make me sit up and I find them very nurturing somehow. Among other things, the movie has some beautiful imagery of torus patterning and flows, and the bit that surprisingly brought tears to my eyes was description of it as a self correcting form...the image shows it kind of buckling or collapsing and then reforming itself to optimum flow. "m thinking that maybe that's what's behind even the embryo...no conclusions, mind.
Beautiful bit of writing, Ged.

A totally new perspective and fascinating to say the least. Just saw a talk tonight by Mike deGruy on TED about octopuses, and the awareness suggestions in the article towards the attachments to create a more functional Trapezius fall right in place when I attempt to imitate the octopus' movements. Thank you and look forward to more.

Thank you, Ged, that is a wonderful blog! Insightful and poetic! How about the sun's energy/photons being the transmitters in how we feel through water? Isn't that something that has been proposed by Russian researchers? Best to you, Susanne
